Kitchener-South Hespeler and Conservative MPP Amy Fee will not seek re-election in next June's provincial election.
Fee made the announcement in a statement, released on Wednesday afternoon.
"I have been tremendously humbled and grateful for the trust my constituents have placed in me," Fee said.
"The last three years have been some of the most challenging, and yet some of the most rewarding years of my life. As a single mother with four children, I feel my voice is critically important, especially on education, support for parents, women's issues, and social services. Sadly, I feel my opportunities to contribute to the community in this role are being outpaced by the increasing demands of my family."
Fee added she is a mother first and she feels the need to hand the reins to someone who can continue to represent the riding with total dedication.
The Ontario PC Party also released a statement, thanking Fee for her years of service. "There is nothing more important than family and spending time with loved ones. We wish Amy and her children all the best in their future." it read in part.
In the fall of 2019, Fee faced two assault charges in connection with alleged incidents in her Kitchener home, involving her ex-husband. The charges were eventually withdrawn.
