The City of Cambridge is planning to show off its latest sports complex in style.
City staff are inviting residents to the grand opening of the Fountain Street Soccer Complex on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The day gets started with the official ribbon cutting ceremony and is followed by entertainment from Shy Harry, a soccer exhibition game and skill based drills for kids.
In the afternoon, a mascot skills competition, another performance by Shy Harry, a rugby skills and drills session, and a draw for a Conestoga soccer jersey close out the festivities. Food offerings from Ish and Chips, Heavenly Dreams Ice Cream and Krankie Frankie's Hub Grub are available.
Kids activity stations will be set up with face painting, soccer games and crafts in partnership with the Idea Exchange.
Throughout the day, families can meet various sports organizations in the city to learn more about programs being offered.
Construction of the soccer complex began in July of 2022, with Kitchener-based Gateman-Milloy Inc. responsible for overseeing its completion.
Originally scheduled to open in the fall of 2023, supply chain issues delayed it until this year.
Last month, it was officially opened for use.
