Reep Green Solutions is excited to announce the Zero Waste Challenge 2024, a fun initiative designed to inspire self-reflection around the things we throw away and their impact on our community.

Each October, we invite residents of Waterloo Region to take on the challenge of fitting all their single-use waste into a mason jar for 7, 14, or 30 days. This is the chance to dive into Circular Economy – a system where materials are reused and regenerated instead of just thrown away.

The Zero Waste Challenge is open to individuals, families, businesses, and organizations. Last year, 122 participants – including 109 people and 13 pets – took the plunge into waste reduction.

And yes, pets are welcome to join again this year!

A participant from Kitchener who signed up with her two pets shared her motivation: “I wanted to see how much waste we really generate and what makes up this waste so I can know how to reduce it.”

This year, participants will gain access to a wealth of resources, practical tips, and creative ideas to support their zero-waste journey, including insightful blogs on everything from oral hygiene to low waste in the pet industry, to upcycling trash, and more!

“The Zero Waste Challenge is more than just a call to action; it's a movement towards a more sustainable future,” says Swatil Mahmud, communications manager at Reep Green Solutions. “It’s an opportunity to embark on a zero-waste journey that is easy to do and catered for all levels of sustainable living enthusiasts!”
