A letter sent home to parents of students at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School on April 12 said the school will be closed April 13 and 14 because there aren't enough staff to "safely deliver" classroom programs.

The letter, signed by the Waterloo Catholic District School Board's director of education Loretta Notten and school principal Amanda Kuntz, says a number of students and staff at the school have tested positive for COVID-19.

"The number of people currently isolating is such that we are experiencing challenges" reads the letter.

"This is not a decision of public health, but it is being made out of an abundance of caution and because we wish to ensure that we can safely staff the building."

The closure at the Saginaw Parkway school extends to the Easter break with the school currently scheduled to reopen Tuesday, April 19.

Chromebooks have been provided to students so that our teachers and students can return to virtual learning during the closure.

The school says it will share further updates with parents when available.

No further details were released by the school board.
