High school students looking for volunteer hours to complete their diploma are in luck this summer.
The Cambridge Food Bank is currently accepting student volunteers to assist in a variety of roles in July and August.
Youth in Grades 9 to 12 can obtain hours towards their requirement while making a positive impact in the community.
Shifts are three hours in length.
The need for volunteers and donations remains high despite a recent report released by Community Food Centres Canada showed Cambridge's poverty rate hovers around six per cent, two percentage points lower than the provincial average.
The report also indicated 24 per cent of people living in Ontario suffer from food insecurity.
Food insecurity is impacting all demographics in the city, as 33 per cent of visits to the food bank are by children and since 2019, the number of seniors using its services has increased by 145 per cent, according to Cambridge Food Bank statistics.
Breakfast foods such as cereal, oatmeal, pancake mixes and spreads are among the most needed items.
