This Friday marks the 52 anniversary of Earth Day around the world, demonstrating a unified support for environmental protection, mainly by picking up litter in public parks or trails.

Cambridge celebrates annually together with a community cleanup, set to be held this year on Saturday, April 23.

Anyone in need of litter clean up supplies can pick them up at one of four Idea Exchange branches in Cambridge Saturday morning, then head over to any park, trail or public space. The four branches are:

  • Hespeler Idea Exchange; 5 Tannery St. E.
  • St. Benedicts Secondary School / Clemens Mill Idea Exchange branch; 50 Saginaw Pkwy
  • Queen's Square Idea Exchange branch in Galt; 1 North Sq.
  • Preston Idea Exchange branch; 435 King St. E.

From Friday to Saturday, Earth Day clean up projects and initiatives will take place all over the city to help keep nature looking green.

For a more educational experience, residents can purchase tickets for the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, which is also open for spring tours during Earth Day, but noted the events are subject to change based on COVID-19 restrictions.
