Calling all Swifties! The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is excited to announce Swifties Against Hunger, a special Taylor Swift-themed event that raises food, funds, and awareness for The Food Bank.
This exciting event will take place on Wednesday, November 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Food Bank’s distribution centre—just one day before Taylor Swift kicks off her first of six shows at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, running from November 14 to 23, 2024.
“Taylor Swift is known for her generosity and giving back to the community, and often donates to food banks in cities where she performs,” says Kim Wilhelm, CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. “Our Swifties Against Hunger event is a unique opportunity for her fans in Waterloo region to join together in support of hunger relief, something that Taylor has forever and always championed.”
The event will feature activities such as friendship bracelet-making, Swiftie trivia and prizes, and the chance to shake it off to TSwift’s songs. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite album era. Each ticket is just $13—Taylor Swift’s favourite number—and helps The Food Bank provide an incredible 26 meals for people facing hunger. Fans who are unable to attend the event can still get involved in other ways. Donations of $13, $22 or $87, nods to Taylor Swift’s lucky number, her popular song 22, and the jersey number worn by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, are appreciated to help reduce hunger in Waterloo region. Donations can be made online at thefoodbank.ca/donate. For every dollar donated, The Food Bank can provide two healthy and nutritious meals for someone in need.
Swifties can also donate non-perishable red food items, paying tribute to Taylor Swift’s Red album, like tomato soup and pasta sauce, which will go directly to the 54 organizations in the Community Food Assistance Network that provide direct food support to the 1 in 10 households in Waterloo region struggling to afford to put food on the table. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at any grocery store or police, fire, or paramedic station in Kitchener-Waterloo.
“We’re honoured to have the support of Taylor’s incredible fanbase who are known for their passion and generosity,” says Wilhelm. “We look forward to connecting with them at our event on November 13 and are so grateful for their donations. Together, we can ensure that no one in Waterloo region experiences a blank space at their table.”
