Fundraiser started for 11-year-old cyclist seriously injured in Hespeler collision.

A family friend has started a GoFundMe page for a young girl who was seriously injured after being struck by a car.

On July 21, Tamara Purcell's 11-year-old daughter was out riding her bike when she was involved in a collision involving a vehicle.

The GoFundMe page was created by a close family friend Tamara Coulombe and notes that the young girl has been seriously injured and transported to McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton.

"Although she has been released "D" has severe head and face injuries including broken facial bones, broken eye socket bones and most worrisome, brain injury. She has many surgeries and an unknown future ahead of her," read the page.

"At this time her mother can not work as she is bringing her daughter to physiotherapy, other medical appointments and surgeries."

The funds will go directly to the family to help offset any time taken off work in addition to all any new expenses related to the accident such as: travel expenses to the ongoing hospital appointments, gas, parking, accommodation, food and medical expenses not covered through OHIP.

"Let's rally behind this mother to help her help her young daughter. No gift is too small, all help is greatly appreciated," wrote Coulombe.

According to police, at approximately 1:25 p.m., emergency services responded to the area of Edward Street and Weaver Street for reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist.

The cyclist, an 11-year-old female, was transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle reported no physical injuries.

The investigation is ongoing by the Traffic Services Unit.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have information or video footage is asked to call the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Traffic Services Unit at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
