Five stations are on the scene of a fire at a vacant building at the intersection of King and Lowther streets in Preston.

Five stations are on the scene of a fire at a vacant building at the intersection of King and Lowther streets in Preston.

A tweet from the Cambridge Fire Department says there are no injuries and firefighters are "operating in the defensive strategy."

All streets in the area have been closed and everyone is urged to avoid that part of Preston.

The property was listed for $2 million last year and has a development proposal attached to it for 48 residential units with 10,000 square feet of main floor commercial space.

The building on the site was constructed in the mid 1800s and was the Central Hotel for most of its life.

It was most recently known as The Hopper Dance Club and Sports Pub before a 2015 fire damaged the main floor and displaced residents of a number of second floor apartments.

More to come.
