There were no injuries but lots of damage following an early afternoon fire at a high rise on 15 Lena Cres. in Cambridge on Monday.
The cause of the incident was a grease fire on a stove in one of the unit’s kitchens. No injuries were reported.
Allison Jones director of communications for the City of Cambridge, said fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire but several units experienced water damage and tenants will be displaced for a few days while the floors and drywall are restored.
Damage is estimated at $210,000.
According to the Cambridge Fire Department, “damage would have been much worse had it not been for a working sprinkler system.”
Cambridge fire would like to remind residents, when there is a cooking or grease fire, to simply put a lid on it and call 911.
They also advise to never add water to an active grease fire.
