Beginning April 14, residents of Cambridge will be able to rent e-bikes and e-scooters to help them get around the city.
The region has partnered with Neuron Mobility to run the program that will see up to 500 e-bikes and 500 e-scooters hit the road for a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
“Part of creating a liveable community is providing more sustainable, convenient and accessible transportation options like e-bikes and e-scooters for our residents,” Colleen James, Region of Waterloo councillor and chair of the planning and works committee, said in a release.
“This shared program not only helps achieve the Region of Waterloo’s climate change goals, but it also supports the expansion of multi-modal transportation within our community and an interconnected transportation network.”
The first set of vehicles will be available for use through virtual stations in the downtown area and near public transit. The number of vehicles on the road will gradually increase after the launch date and will be stationed at roughly 150 locations in the region.
All vehicles are equipped with helmets and can be booked through the Neuron Mobility app. They cost $1.15 to unlock and are .35 cents per minute of use. Three-day and monthly rates will also be offered.
Users can download the app through the App Store or Google Play.
The program will run until Oct. 31.
