Damaged Cambridge splash pads gradually coming back into service

The city has been dealing with failing parts and vandalism, forcing the recent closure of four of its splash pads

For the past few weeks, three of the city's largest splash pads have been closed due to mechanical issues and stolen components, rendering the water fixtures inoperable.

This week city crews have been out fixing a wide range of issues from brass fittings to vandalism.

Northview Heights is expected to be back up and running by July 16 as a third-party contractor is completing work.

Soper Park is now fully open after brass fittings had to be replaced with custom-manufactured plastic components.

Ward 8 Nicholas Ermeta said in a social media post that these new components, "should address the theft issues we’ve experienced at that location."

The city's largest splash pad at Riverside Park is expected to have another third-party contractor this week to complete the repair.

Ermeta also noted that the Weaver Park water fixture has failed and was subsequently vandalized, likely needing a full replacement.

There are currently seven other parks that have fully operational spray pads but the city recommends that residents confirm their destination park is open before heading out.
