COVID hospitalizations in region decline by two to 54

There's been a slight improvement when it comes to local COVID patients in hospital.

54 patients are in hospital, which is two less than what was reported on the region's dashboard on Tuesday. The number of patients in intensive care has declined by one to six.

Region of Waterloo Public Health also reported 115 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. It raises the local total to 43,697. The resolved case rate is 96.3 per cent.

No new deaths were reported. The local death toll is 403.

The active caseload is up to 1,186.

In terms of variants of concern, the region's dashboard shows 449 of those cases (92.4 per cent) have been linked to the Omicron variant since March 6.

85.9 per cent of residents five and over in Waterloo Region are now fully vaccinated. Over 1.30 million doses have been administered to local residents, including over 293,000 third doses. 50.8 per cent of those 12 and over have received a third dose.

54.8 per cent of children between 5 and 11 have received at least one dose. 39.7 are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province reported 3,833 new cases Wednesday.
