The company formed by the merger of Energy+ and Brantford Power Inc. will now be known as GrandBridge Energy Inc.
The city was asked to approve the name change along with the City of Brantford and the Township of North Dumfries this week because they all own shares in the utilities.
Energy+ Inc. and Brantford Power Inc. signed a "merger participation agreement" last September to become the amalgamated utility company known as Amalco. While the merger was in negotiation, it was known as MergeCo.
Soon after reaching an agreement, management at the two companies retained the services of corporate branding firm Cinnamon Toast to come up with a list of a new corporate name for Amalco.
Last month, a joint board committee met to approve the new name GrandBridge Energy Inc.
A report to council says "the name is both a nod to the Grand River and Amalco’s service excellence. It signifies the two-way connection between company and community, and imparts a sense of accessibility; that there is always an open pathway to reach out when desired.”
