A new spray pad is being planned for Lions Can-Amera Park and the city is seeking input from the community on what they'd like to see in the project.
Through an online survey, residents can have their say on two themes for the pad that will sit off Saginaw Parkway on the park's north side.
The first theme takes inspiration from walking through a forest next to a pond with playful water features. Splash elements include the fox, cattail, leaflet and butterfly.
The second theme draws from sailing the high seas, with water features inspired by marine life. The whale fin, ship, reef star and octopus are being considered in this design.
Additional add-ons to the project are a sloped seating area with shaded sections along the hillside to go along with newly installed benches, tables and a shade structure.
All construction is being completed with high standards of accessibility and inclusivity. Hard-surface concrete pathways, various sensory specific water features and easy to access gathering spots in both concepts make for ideal use for children, teens, adults and people with special needs and mobility aids.
The survey closes on Jan. 1 and can be accessed here.
Following the collection of feedback, it will be analyzed by city staff. The final design of the spray pad will then be shared with the community.
Construction is set to begin in the spring of 2025.
