The arrival of the holidays is a welcome respite from the past 19 months of pandemic life.
As our communities cautiously re-open, the holiday spirit is sweeping over Waterloo Region with a full slate of themed events and attractions to help boost your spirits while also respecting and maintaining safety precautions.
“The holidays are truly a magical time of year, and after the past couple of years we have had, we can all really use an infusion of good tidings and cheer,” says Minto Schneider, Chief Executive Officer of Explore Waterloo Region. “This is the season to gather with family and friends, when music filters through the cold night air, when peace and goodwill are in the hearts and minds of many. It is a season to celebrate.”
With that in mind, here are seven events happening over the holiday season in Waterloo that should be added to your to-do list.
- Gift of Lights — This family-friendly drive-thru holiday light display features two stunning light tunnels and more than 300 animated and static light displays stretching over 2.5 kilometres through Bingemans. Tune the car radio to 103.3 FM to enjoy Gift of Lights Radio while driving through the park. Gift of Lights.
- Cambridge Celebrates Winterfest — The City of Cambridge is once again celebrating the season with Winterfest, set to bring festive cheer to the community between now and Jan. 2. Featuring many of the great seasonal events locals have come to know and love over the past 20 years, the three main events will be the Cambridge Christmas Market, Winter Illumination and the New Year’s Eve Skate. Festival-goers are encouraged to share their Winterfest experience by tagging posts and pictures on social media with the hashtag #CbridgeCelebrates.
- Old Fashioned Christmas at Snyder’s Farm – For the first time, Snyder’s Farm is offering U-cut Christmas trees from its field, as well as a selection of pre-cut trees. It is also featuring the Farm Christmas Bakery, a gift barn, Santa visits in the North Pole and physically distanced campfire pods where you can roast s’mores or order off their menu.
- Christmas at the Castle — Between now and Jan. 2, step back in time and marvel at the sights and sounds of a merry Victorian Christmas at Castle Kilbride. The castle in Baden, Ont., will be fully decorated for the holidays. Advance tickets are required.
- Christmas on Stage — Drayton Entertainment is presenting Back Home for the Holidays, which will be performed in adherence with all current public health guidelines at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge from now to 26th. This special theatrical event is a joyous holiday celebration that will fill your heart with the holiday spirit.
