Cambridge’s Penny and Pound Theatre is bringing classical musical ‘Carousel’ to the outdoor stage from Sept. 1 to 3.
It's the latest entertainment option coming to the Gaslight District.
The production features local performers, including 23-year-old Laurier graduate Ben Wallace and 22-year-old Cambridge Cultural Award-winner Piper J. Distel. Wallace, Distel and the rest of the cast will work alongside the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra.
“Following a story of doomed love, redemption and the enduring human spirit, ‘Carousel’ transports the audience to a world where emotions run deep and melodies linger in the heart,” a press release said.
“The cast and crew have poured their dedication into every detail, from the lavish costumes to the meticulously crafted choreography, ensuring that every aspect of the production resonates with the essence of the story.”
Director Lori Robinson Distel, who spent many years as an instructor and youth coordinator for the Cambridge Community Players, says the audience can expect an emotional ride performed by up-and-coming theatre talent.
“This production has allowed our young actors to showcase their incredible talents and connect with the powerful themes that the musical explores,” Robinson Distel said.
“We're excited to bring this iconic musical to life and offer our audience a chance to escape into the magic of theatre. Our young adults have worked tirelessly to master the complexities of the characters and their relationships, and we're confident that their hard work will shine through in every scene.”
