The Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame reopened to guests on Feb. 12.

The city's sports stars are back on display inside the Cambridge Centre mall.

The Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame reopened on Monday, roughly two and a half months after being forced to close due to vandalism.

"Cambridge Centre management has been fully supportive and extremely patient through the delays," Dave Menary, co-founder and communications director for the hall of fame, said.

"I don’t think the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame has ever looked better."

He also credited the hard work of its committee members and volunteers in helping with the process.

On December 1 around noon, Waterloo regional police responded to a report of a person causing damage to the property inside the storefront in the mall.

Police located and arrested a 33-year-old male and charged him with mischief under $5,000 and public nudity. The damage included several broken display cases and came in at a total cost under $10,000.

Menary said the cause for the lengthy reopening period was due to a delay with the glass supplier.

"On Friday, Tri-County Glass installed the new glass doors for the damaged display cases and then we got to work on the displays and installing some new exhibits," he said.

"Tri-County went above and beyond to ensure we could open on Monday, overcoming several hurdles."

The hall of fame is now turning its attention to its induction ceremony on May 4. Six individuals and three teams will be inducted, including Menary in the builders category.
