It appears the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame won't be reopening its doors to the public until the new year after an act of vandalism caused its closure earlier this month.
Dave Menary, co-founder and communications director for the hall of fame, said its committee is working as fast as possible to make repairs.
However, due to a delay in the availability of glass, the work won't be complete for another few weeks.
The positive is no significant damage was done other than the smashed display cases, Menary said.
"The insurance company has already begun the cleanup," he said.
"No one was injured during the vandalism and no appreciable damage was done to any of the artifacts and memorabilia. All good news."
On Dec. 1, Waterloo regional police responded to a report of a person causing damage to the property inside the storefront in the Cambridge Centre mall.
Police located and arrested a 33-year-old male and charged him with mischief under $5,000 and public nudity.
A message posted on the doors of the hall of fame states all repairs must be made before it can reopen its doors due to safety reasons.
An estimate on the cost of the damage remains unknown.
The Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers with a mission of honouring and inducting outstanding individuals, teams and builders to promote the local sports scene.
