The owner of Water Street sports bar The Pick & Shovel got an $880 fine this week for failing to comply with Step 3 requirements under the Reopening Ontario Act.

Other enforcement actions in the region over the last week, as detailed by Region of Waterloo Chair Karen Redman during Friday's media briefing, include City of Waterloo bylaw which issued eight $880 fines for gatherings in private residences.

Grand River Transit security issued one ticket for failing to comply with the face covering bylaw. It carries a fine of $240.

Redman called the province’s recent move to pause lifting capacity limits in settings where proof of vaccination is required “a prudent decision made out of an abundance of caution to keep people safe.”

“We’re not out of the woods yet. We need to keep following public health measures,” she said.
