Rats continue to be a problem in Cambridge according to pest control company Orkin Canada.

Cambridge has once again cracked a Top 25 list it would prefer not to be on.

Orkin Canada recently released its list of "rattiest" cities in Ontario, with Cambridge coming in at No. 14. It's the same ranking it received in 2023.

Kitchener and Guelph were also ranked at No. 19 and 22, respectively. Toronto took the top spot.

Cambridge avoided the list of Top 25 in Canada, which saw Toronto remain No. 1.

The list is based on the number of rodent treatments Orkin has performed between August 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024. Treatments include on both residential and commercial properties.

Rats have been a problem in a number of Cambridge neighbourhoods for years but the issue grew in areas around the downtown cores during the pandemic when rodents who had relied on getting their food from restaurants moved into residential areas.

As winter approaches and rats look for warm places to live, Orkin is reminding residents of several preventative tips.

Trimming trees, turning off outside water, frequent inspections inside and outside of your property, closing any gaps and keeping the surrounding area clean are all ways homeowners can prevent rodent infestation.
