The local Hindu community is once again getting ready to deliver over 200 winter care packages to the community.

The volunteer group primarily made up of students will be hitting the streets on Dec. 15 to give away care packages with essential items.

"During this holiday season, Radha Krishna Mandir Outreach Group collected donations for winter care packages to share amongst the less fortunate in the community on Sunday December 15th 2024," wrote the Radha Krishna Mandir and Cultural Centre (RKMCC) in a press release.

"These packages will include essential products such as personal care and hygiene items, warm items including gloves, toques, scarfs and treats to eat."

Last year each back was filled with 30 items including hats, gloves, socks, hand warmers, sanitizers, cereals, cakes, cookies, soft drinks, fruits and toiletries.

Each year the local Hindu youth group at the temple collects money and items for various charity drives such as their winter care kits and the backpack drive to support the Waterloo Region Police. This summer, the group donated over 1,200 backpacks to be given out to local children.

These winter packages will be bundled at the temple on Old Mill Road in Cambridge and hand delivered to the King Street Shelter (Schwaben Club), The
Bridges Shelter and the homeless encampment at Weber and Victoria Street in Kitchener.

According to the outreach group, a total of $10,000 was raised to fill the 200 bags.

"By asking friends and family to contribute, the youths hope to bring the community together by helping the less fortunate again this year," said the group. "The positive response from the community gives the youths encouragement to continue to find ways to help those in need."
