The local business community has given a boost to local healthcare.

The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce has presented a cheque for $12,500 to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation towards assisting the hospital’s Breast Reconstruction Unit, a worthy cause the business organization and its members and supporters have contributed to annually since 2008.

The funds represent one hundred per cent of the proceeds raised from a silent auction the Chamber featured at its annual Salute to Women in Business Networking Lunch, held Jan. 25 at Tapestry Hall. The sold-out event was attended by a vibrant and enthusiastic group of local business and community leaders, many of whom placed bids on the more than 40 items graciously donated by local businesses.

“It’s important to support local healthcare as much as we can,” said Cambridge Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Greg Durocher. “This support ensures we have the tools to offer surgery locally and allow patients to access specialized care closer to home.”

Durocher said the support for this important cause is a clear testament to how valuable healthcare is to the business community.

“Having the best local healthcare possible is important to creating a healthier and more prosperous community,” he said, adding this year’s contribution was the largest amount raised by the silent auction which to date has collected nearly $112,000 towards this cause.
