Cambridge Celebration of the Arts showcasing talent at city hall

The Juror’s Choice, 50th Anniversary Commemorative and Peoples’ Choice awards will be handed out at the Cambridge Celebration of the Arts on June 16.

The City of Cambridge is inviting residents to city hall on June 16 for the Cambridge Celebration of the Arts.

Each year roughly 5,000 people pass through to view local visual, literary and performing arts talents.

Awards will be given out for the top pieces in the categories of Juror’s Choice, 50th Anniversary Commemorative and Peoples’ Choice. The Peoples’ Choice award will be voted on by those in attendance.

Vanessa De Freitas, Patricia Helen Oliver and Tania Hanscom are the the jurors responsible for selecting the artists and voting on the Juror’s Choice award.

De Freitas is classically trained in both voice and piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music and has performed in several musicals, including The Secret Garden, Grease with Believe Musical Theater, and more recently Kitchener Waterloo Musical Production’s (KWMP) Titanic, Lost and Found Theater’s Hello Dolly, JM Drama’s Evita and KWMP’s Jesus Christ Superstar.

Oliver is best known for her work in the literary arts realm, having been a contributor and prize winner at the Cambridge Writers Collective.

Hanscom brings a wealth of expertise in visual arts and was nominated for the Beatrice Adams Award in 2017.

As part of the celebration and to help commemorate Cambridge’s 50th anniversary, attendees are encouraged to dress in their best 70’s outfits, with prizes being handed out for the best attire.

The event will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 50 Dickson St.
