A Cambridge based automation company is expanding its operation in the city and creating over 70 new jobs.

ATS Industrial Automation is an industry leader in automation and is looking to open up a new facility, making it the third one in the city.

Founded in 1978, ATS has carved its way to the top of their industry, employing over 6,000 people at 50 manufacturing facilities and over 75 offices in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and China.

The automation company is taking over one of the buildings at 1574 Eagle St. N. and renovations on the 106,000 square foot facility are currently underway.

ATS Industrial Automation’s third building and will employ over 70 people, including an assembly team, mechanical and electrical design, shipping receiving, and office support staff. They intend to open the new facility sometime next month after we complete building renovations, according to ATS.

With the new expansion, ATS will also be expanding capabilities at their other facilities at 730 Fountain St. and 1 Natura Way.

They expect to add more than 60 assembly jobs to support their client base in nuclear, grid storage, electric vehicle battery assembly and testing equipment.

On Jan. 4, ATS announced they have received over $110 million worth of EV battery orders.

They are looking to improve on the $513 million worth of orders that were fulfilled in 2022 and are hoping with this new expansion they will be able to meet that goal.

"These bookings again demonstrate our ability to execute leading solutions in this dynamic space," said Andrew Hider, CEO of ATS. "Through building strategic partnerships with our customers, and leveraging our ATS Business Model to continuously refine our offerings, we continue to navigate this evolving market while maintaining a steadfast focus on customer needs."

The new plant at 1574 Eagle St. N. is expected to open at the end of the month.
