Waterloo regional police have arrested and charged a 30-year-old Cambridge man with arson after a fire at the Cambridge Food Bank on Monday night.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., emergency services responded to reports of a commercial fire in the area of Ainslie Street South and Bruce Street.
A fire was set to the condensers for the walk-in cooler and freezer that caused approximately $5,000 worth of damage. The building itself remained undamaged but a freezer has been put out of commission, according to food bank executive director Dianne McLeod.
Through their investigation, police determined the fire was intentionally set.
There were no reports of physical injuries.
The male is scheduled to appear in court in May.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.waterloocrimestoppers.com.
