People will once again be migrating to the Gaslight District for the city's latest music festival next month.
Elk Fest is a free event scheduled for Oct. 8 that combines musical acts on the main stage with craft cocktail stations and local restaurants.
The lineup features The Almost Hip, Canada's ultimate Tragically Hip tribute band, and ACDC tribute band Thunderstruck.
It's been a busy few months since the public square's grand opening back in July that saw thousands pass through the downtown. Everything from live music and sports on the big screen to a car show and a free interactive exhibit has entertained the community, with more on the way.
This Saturday, people can gather to re-watch Game 6 of the 1993 World Series while taking part in baseball themed activities and games.
For its work revitalizing the space into a community hub, HIP Developments has been nominated for the Architecture Conservancy of Ontario's Paul Oberman Award for Adaptive Reuse in the large-scale/team/corporate category.
The recognition for the Gaslight District says the transformation of the former Goldie & McCulloch factory "injected life into downtown Galt."
"We need more people living, working and visiting downtown and the Gaslight District is playing an important part in making this happen,” Brian Kennedy, executive director of the Downtown Cambridge BIA told CambridgeToday about the role the Gaslight District is playing in enhancing the overall experience in the core.
"This is a testament that more people shopping, dining and playing at any of the fantastic businesses or attractions is for the betterment of the entire downtown.”
