CambridgeToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Brad McEwen, in regards to recent letter on "renovictions:"
Tom Murphy of Guelph suggest that those vulnerable tenants facing renoviction and steep rental increases should stop complaining and move somewhere that they can afford.
Not only is his letter offensive and heartless, but he is missing the point!
There is an acute housing shortage.
Rental accommodation is increasingly expensive and out of reach for most people.
There IS nowhere for those threatened with renoviction to GO!
That is one of the many reasons that there are so many encampments.
I can only hope that Mr. Murphy is, like Scrooge, visited by Three Spirits and that he may find some humanity and compassion in his bitter heart.
