CambridgeToday received the following open letter to Cambridge City Council regarding supportive housing.

To the members of Cambridge city council,

Waterloo and Cambridge both have an Affordable Housing Fund that holds contributions from local developers who opted not to include affordable housing in their projects.

City of Waterloo council has unanimously approved $375,000 in funding to address homelessness among seniors.

Approved is $325,000 supporting a 31-unit addition at Supportive Housing of Waterloo (SHOW)’s facility at 144 Erb Street.

SHOW and the Central Ontario Co-operative Housing Federation, both dedicated to housing solutions, joined Mayor Dorothy McCabe for the announcement.

In Cambridge, we are desperate for Supportive Housing like this, recognized as being financially able to support three times as many homeless residents as any other alternative!

We urge Cambridge council to follow Waterloo’s lead and encourage Supportive Housing by utilizing our own Affordable Housing Fund.
