LINE TRADE TECHNICIAN (JOURNEYPERSON POWERLINE TECHNICIAN) OR MINIMUM THIRD YEAR APPRENTICE

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Group Leader or delegate, the Line Trade Technician or Third Year Powerline Technician Apprentice (having completed Level 3 under the Powerline Trades Technician program) will be responsible to perform any work required to construct, repair or maintain distribution, sub transmission and any future transmission lines. In addition, the candidate will be responsible to complete patrols and inspections as required, emergency repairs, respond to customer complaints and attend to unplanned outages. The candidate must be capable of identifying workplace hazards and be able to utilize all reasonable barriers to ensure safe work performance. When deemed to meet the requirements, the incumbent will be required to perform regular on-call duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have following qualifications:
• Certified as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician through an industry recognized training program or have completed Level 3 in the Powerline Trades Technician program with the Ontario Colleges and Apprenticeships branch; with the expectation to complete formal training under an industry standard Powerline Technician Training Program and attain 8000 hours working in the trade to become fully qualified.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” or “D” Ontario Driver’s License with a Class “Z” endorsement with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Must be able to fulfill ‘on-call’ responsibilities when deemed competent.
• Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
• Excellent working knowledge of and adherence to all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act rules and regulations, Provincial Environmental Regulations, IHSA Electrical and Utility Safety Rules and Safe Practice Guides.
• Ability to read and interpret documentation pertinent to the work (i.e. instructions, prints, drawings, sketches, operating diagrams, work protection documents, etc.).
• Must have the demonstrated ability to safely operate the tools and equipment necessary for this work.
• Must have an industrious work ethic and proven ability/flexibility to work in a team environment.
• Good communication and report writing skills; demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is an asset.
• Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with internal/external customers and industry partners.
• Current certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS.
