Emergency Preparedness Week: Be ready year-round

People should understand the risks that exist in every season, says assistant fire chief

During National Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5 to 11), the Region and its partners will hold events to help people prepare themselves and their families for emergencies throughout the year.

“Individuals should understand the risks for emergencies in every season so they can be better prepared when an emergency happens,” says Gina Cliffe, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief of Cambridge. “Completing a few basic steps like creating an emergency plan and building an emergency kit will help you take care of yourself and your loved ones during an emergency.”

The public is invited to a number of events this week:

  • May 6-8: City of Kitchener Emergency Management Week pop up event at Kitchener City Hall in the Rotunda from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • May 9-10: City of Kitchener Emergency Management Week pop up event at Fairview Mall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • May 11:City of Kitchener Emergency Management Week pop up event at the Kitchener Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • May 11:WRPS Open House at 200 Maple Grove Rd. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. including a City of Cambridge Emergency Management table
  • May 16: Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) Emergency Preparedness open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira
